North Carolina Pet-Friendly Room Sign Requirements
North Carolina General Statute § 72-7.1 establishes specific signage requirements for hotels and inns that permit pets in sleeping rooms.
Properties that allow pets must post a sign measuring at least 5" x 7" at the guest registration area stating that pets are permitted in sleeping rooms and adjoining rooms. If only certain types of pets are allowed or prohibited, the sign must identify those restrictions. The registration-area sign must also state that pet-free rooms are available when pets are permitted anywhere in the property.
Pet-friendly sleeping rooms have an additional posting requirement. Each room where pets are permitted must contain a separate sign measuring at least 5" x 7" in a prominent location. The room sign must state that pets are permitted, identify any applicable pet restrictions, and state that bringing a pet into a room where pets are not permitted is a Class 3 misdemeanor.
The statute also requires hotels and inns that permit pets to maintain at least 10% of their sleeping rooms as rooms where pets are not permitted. These provisions do not apply to assistance dogs covered under North Carolina law.
Review the current requirements in North Carolina General Statute § 72-7.1 and confirm applicable requirements with your local authority having jurisdiction before ordering or installing signage. |
